Emily Brandwin

Emily Brandwin

Former Operations Officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Improv Comedienne

Emily Brandwin started off her career as an improv comedienne and then took the next logical career step and joined the Central Intelligence Agency…yes, that CIA!  Emily started her career as a Disguise Specialist and was recruited into the CIA’s prestigious Clandestine Service program where she served the rest of her career as an Operations Officer (aka a spy). Emily had some amazing adventures travelling the world. Unfortunately, Emily can’t tell you where she travelled, so don’t ask. She was involved in several important covert missions, but sadly Emily can’t tell you about that either.

Since leaving the CIA, Emily moved to LA and have been a guest on a variety of tv & radio shows commenting on the CIA, Hollywood’s portrayal of CIA, travel and other intelligence issues. Emily’s appeared on ABC.com’s digital series for Quantico (“The Recruits”),  Nightline, Good Morning America, FX.com ten part digital series for The Americans (Life Undercover), FOX’s “The Independents,” Hallmark Home & Family, BBC, local broadcast/podcasts among others. She’s also been featured in stories for Washington Post, Esquire, Newsweek, Playboy, Cosmopolitan and St. Louis Magazine. Additionally, Emily’s writing has appeared in The Guardian, Marie Claire, Marie Claire Australia, Medium, etc

Her talk titled “From Comedian to the CIA” highlights her incredibly unusual journey from the seedy comedy clubs of St. Louis to the world of international espionage.  Emily’s journey from awkward teen, to theatre “nerd” to CIA Operative is fun and motivating. Amid the white papers and power point presentations, Emily offers a keynote that is entertaining, informative and inspiring. Sit back, put your pencils down and Emily will make you think about the Intelligence business in a much different way.

The Stand-Up Spy

From Comedy To Espionage: The Unbelievably True Story About Becoming a CIA Operative. Armed with a fresh outlook and a theatre degree, Emily Brandwin was ready to conquer the world. She pounded the pavement and found less than impressive work performing improv comedy in dingy smoke-filled comedy clubs. Emily's mom (a spy fanatic) found a job ad for the CIA and made her daughter a deal: apply to the Agency and she can continue to live at home...rent free. Assuming she'd never get the job, Emily applied and much to everyone's surprise, was accepted into the CIA. Sound like a far fetched Hollywood script? It's not...it's the unbelievably true story about how Emily Brandwin went from improv comedy to being an Operative for the Central Intelligence Agency. With humour and insight, Emily will tell you her story that will leave you laughing and with a deeper understanding of how the most secretive agency in America operates.

Your speech touched a lot of people and made them laugh too! It was a delivered perfectly!
