Frank Bruno MBE is a former World Heavyweight Champion (Boxing) and a sporting national treasure in the UK. Frank knows exactly what it takes to achieve peak performance in order to become a champion.
Turning professional aged 21, Frank Bruno made a name for himself due to his early fights being won by knockout, making him one of the most explosive and exciting boxers to watch of the era. He challenged for the World title on three occasions, against Tim Witherspoon, Mike Tyson and Oliver McCall. With both Tyson and Witherspoon too strong of an opponent at the time, Bruno eventually won the title after a gruelling twelve round test of stamina against McCall, where Frank was named the victor on a points basis.
After losing to Tyson once more in Glasgow in 1996, Frank Bruno duly retired and left a legacy of great boxing achievements, including an impressive record of 40 victories from 45 fights (including 38 of the 40 victories achieved were knockouts).
Since retiring Frank has remained the people’s champion as a personality and a media favourite, with his charm and sense of humour shining through on boxing punditry and documentaries. In 2003 he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and again in 2012 and 2014. In 2013 Frank started talking about his mental health experiences and now works more widely as a mental health ambassador, campaigning to break down the stigma surrounding mental health. Frank’s work has seen him speak to senior NHS management, MP’s and a number of large organisations about mental health and depression ensuring mental health is no longer a taboo subject.
Frank is a superb motivational and inspirational speaker with tales of life in the ring as well as the drive and determination needed to realise ambitions and become the champion of the world. Frank shares his thoughts on how to create the right mindset and attitude in whatever you do. With Frank’s experiences with mental health, he is able to speak openly and honestly on this subject too.
