Jakob Scharf is former Director General of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service. He resigned in 2014 in order to pursue a career within the private sector and his is now the executive director of CERTA Intelligence & Security, which is a consultancy company providing intelligence, analysis and security advice for private corporations.
During his term as Director General of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, the terrorist threat became the most significant threat to national security, in particular in Denmark, which has been targeted by militant islamists following the printing of the cartoons of the prophet Muhammed in a Danish newspaper. Cyber-threats also emerged as a new and serious security threat affecting private corporations as well as national security interests.
The dynamic and complex threat picture has required major changes to the capacities, competencies and strategies of national intelligence and security services. A more proactive and progressive approach has been applied, and following the transformation of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service during the leadership of Jakob Scharf, the service has been successful in identifying, preventing and countering a number of specific threats against Denmark and Danish interests abroad, and it is has been recognised as one of the leading services of its kind.
Jakob Scharf can discuss issues such as terrorism, extremism, espionage, organised crime, cyber threats and cyber security, preventive security, emergency management, threats, risks and vulnerabilities, national security and policy issues in relation to national security, corporate security governance and the development of public services as well as public communication strategies. He can also contribute on broader issues based on his political and management experiences from the Danish Security and Intelligence Service. He is a skilful communicator.
