Niels van Roij is a Dutch car designer living and working in London, from where he runs his award winning design studio. Through his automotive design studio, Niels has worked on many projects for the transportation – and design industries.
He worked on research for Volvo, on the inclusively designed Future London Taxi: re-imagining the London icon for car-maker Karsan and was involved in projects with Ford, electric car companies and 10 Downing Street. Generating design strategies and brand DNA’s, through design thinking processes, is also an important part of what Niels does.
Niels van Roij graduated from Vehicle Design at London’s Royal College of Art – the RCA is the world’s no. 1 art and design university. RCA Vehicle Design graduates are in leadership positions with major automotive and transport organisations across the world.
In Niels’ design studio a team of highly skilled designers work for a wide variation of clients. Delivering interdisciplinary projects, using advanced technology and sophisticated creative processes, from concept generation to final execution.
Niels van Roij won prices like the Age UK Award for Inclusive Design, the Lady Hamlyn Design Award, the Worshipful Company of Carmen Transport Design Award and was shortlisted for both the Pininfarina Design Competition and the Car Design News Interior Motives Design Awards. Van Roij’s work was featured internationally, amongst others, in the London Transport Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
In addition to his design work for automotive brands, Van Roij – often referred to as The Car Design Thinker – writes articles for automotive press and publishes books on strategic automotive design. Further Niels van Roij is a visiting tutor and lecturer for different academies and universities worldwide. He was also part of the 10 Downing Street Design Summit with Members Of Parliament, works on coachbuilding vehicles (one-off car design) is Director of Design for Saluqi Motors – manufacturer of super high efficient electric mobility solutions, designed the Future London Taxi and gives the Master Automotive Design to the world of business and automotive.
