Steve Mould

Comedian and Scientist

Steve Mould is a Science Presenter with a reputation for providing expert knowledge and packaging complicated scientific ideas in an accessible way.

Steve runs a YouTube channel with over 154,000 subscribers and millions of views across his content. Each week he takes a science phenomenon and explains it using incredible experiments. His video Self Siphoning Beads has accumulated over 1.8 million views on YouTube. It has since been filmed in slow motion for BBC Earth Unplugged (2.6 million views) and been featured on The One Show and QI as well as in The New York Times. It has even been depicted as a giant three story high sculpture in Guatemala. The mystery of the beads was finally solved by physicist John Biggins and Mark Warner of the University of Cambridge who have dubbed the phenomenon The Mould Effect.

Steve Mould was one of the co-presenters on ITV1’s series, I Never Knew That About Britain where he explored Britain’s rich and eccentric scientific history. He has also made regular appearances on The One Show (BBC One) as well as having been the Science presenter and expert on Britain’s Brightest (BBC One) and Blue Peter (CBBC). In January 2018, Steve appeared as one of the experts on The Department of Complaints (More4). He can also be heard across BBC Radio 5 live, Radio 1 and Absolute Radio.

He is also one third of the hugely successful geeky comedy trio, Festival of The Spoken Nerd who, after sell-out shows across London, Edinburgh Fringe and the West End, regularly tour the length and breadth of the UK with their unique blend of comedy, science, music, maths and interactive experiments. In 2016 they were the resident Nerds on QI as well as presenting their first BBC Radio 4 series Domestic Science, a second series of which will follow in 2017.

With a Physics MA from Oxford University, Steve Mould frequently works with schools, giving talks and demonstrations on Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Psychology.

The concepts behind the demos were easy to understand and clearly explained. They lay behind some really innovative and interesting science demonstrations, which had many of the students out of their seats.

I worked with Steve on a large awards event for the young science community. Steve engaged with the audience perfectly, delivered a continuously high level of energy, enthused the audience and did it all with a great sense of humour. Great guy to work with and won't hesitate to use him again in the future.

A brilliant presentation, easy to follow and understand and very engaging but really quite original. Would definitely take students to see again.
