Susie Wolff, aka “the fastest woman in the world”, is a Scottish racing driver, and is known for being the most successful female racing driver in Europe.
Susie began her career in karting and won many titles and awards before progressing to the Formula Renault UK Championship where she notched three podiums and was twice nominated for British Young Driver of the Year Award.
In 2005 Susie progressed to the British Formula Three Championship. She also made a one-off appearance in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch. 2006 saw Susie compete for the first time in DTM, the German Touring Car series. In her debut season she achieved 6 wins out of the 2004-spec cars, with a best finish of 9th in the season finale. She ended her fifth season ahead of her brand colleagues Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard.
In 2014, Susie Wolff was the first woman to take part in a Formula One race weekend in 22 years, at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Unfortunately she only lasted 4 laps when her car suffered a mechanical failure but demonstrated that women can play a role at the highest level of motorsport.
After retiring from competitive driving at the end of 2015, Susie made a personal commitment to increase the intake of women in motorsport across all areas, this led to the launch of Susie’s highly successful ‘Dare to be Different’ initiative in 2016. In collaboration with the UK Motorsport Governing Body, the Motor Sports Association the Dare to be Different call to action aims to drive female talent by inspiring the next generation and ultimately increasing female participation in all levels and aspects of motorsport. With strong support from the F1 community, Dare to be Different has already connected and showcased some incredible future and current female talent across the motorsport world. The legacy project continues to undertake strong grassroots work globally ensuring that girls and women of all ages are aware of the opportunities available to them.
In 2016 Susie also became an ambassador for ‘She’s Mercedes’. Inspired by Mercedes ‘best or nothing’ mantra, ‘She’s Mercedes’ is a networking platform dedicated to inspiring, connecting and empowering women to unleash their best. She’s Mercedes consists of events, a print magazine and a digital hub, the primary aim being to create and maintain a dialogue. Exceptional women from different fields and industries give their personal insights into topics all around business and real life, as well as their views on how to successfully balance the two. As an ambassador for the platform, Susie speaks about her passion for fast cars and shares her insights and experiences of convincing detractors within the community.
In April 2017 she was awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year Honours for her services and contribution to women in sport.
On June 26 2018 Susie was appointed as Team Principal and a shareholder of VENTURI Formula E Team. Susie’s appointment as Team Principal represents the next exciting step in a wide ranging motorsport career with her first formal move into team management and ownership.
A unique and inspiring story set in the fast-paced world of Formula 1, Susie Wolff motivates her audiences to dream big, always set goals, and remember that it is passion and character, not gender, that defines us.
